The method
- Fraction of an amount: divide by the bottom, multiply by the top.
- 10%: ÷ 10. 1%: ÷ 100. 50%: half.
- Build up any percentage: 35% = 30% + 5%.
- Check the answer is sensible.

Question 1
Work out 1/2 of 64.
- Step 1: 1/2 of 64 = 64 ÷ 2 = 32
Answer: 32
Question 2
Work out 1/5 of 45.
- Step 1: 1/5 of 45 = 45 ÷ 5 = 9
Answer: 9
Question 3
Work out 3/4 of 20.
- Step 1: 1/4 of 20 = 20 ÷ 4 = 5
- Step 2: 3/4 = 3 × 5 = 15
Answer: 15
